4th Of July Weekend Sees Multiple Vehicle Burglaries

84-year-old veteran among victims.

The following items are taken from the Des Plaines Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary to vehicle

July 3: An unknown offender entered an unlocked vehicle while it was parked on the 100 block of Michael Road and rifled through its contents. The owners are unsure if anything was taken.

July 3: A man reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in his driveway on the 200 block of Dulles Road. The victim's license, state identification card and $20 were taken from his wallet, which was in the vehicle.  

July3: Police observed a vehicle with its driver's side door open on the 100 block of Dulles Road. Police contacted the owner who said his daughter was the last to drive the vehicle. It appears that nothing was taken from the vehicle.

July 3: A man reported that his truck had been broken into on the 300 block of West Kathleen Drive. The driver's side seat was torn and $64 taken.

July 3: A man's keys, driver's license, state identification card and credit card were taken from his unlocked vehicle on the 600 block of Dara James Road.

July 3: A man reported that his vehicle had been broken into and damaged while it was parked on the 400 block of Sandy Lane. An unknown offender stole the victim's GPS, smashed a tail light, slashed the front seats of the vehicle and poured brake fluid over the contents of the trunk. Total estimated property loss: $7,000.

July 3: An unknown offender entered an unlocked vehicle on the 2200 block of Sprucewood Avenue and stole $5 in change from the center consul.

July 3: An 84-year-old man reported that his vehicle had been broken into on the 2200 block of Sprucewood Avenue and his Veterans Affairs hospital identification card stolen.
