$268,000 of Narcotics Seized from Des Plaines Man: Police

Edmond Hughes has been charged with several crimes including Possession of cannabis, production of cannabis, possession of controlled substance and unlawful use of weapon.

 

Chicago Police arrested and charged a 33-year-old convicted felon and gang member with drug- and weapon-related offenses after a narcotics investigation led to more than $1/4-million in narcotics and the recovery of a semiautomatic handgun and illegal monies.

Edmond Hughes, 33, of the 800 block of N. Marshall Drive in Des Plaines, Ill., was charged with Possession of Cannabis/2000-5000 grams, Possession of Cannabis/500<2000 grams, Production of Cannabis/20-50 plants, Possession of Controlled Substance/15+Grams- Cocaine, and Unlawful Use of Weapon/Felon.

Chicago Police Package Interdiction Team officers received information about a suspicious package and initiated an investigation. A search warrant revealed the package contained more than 2,600 grams of sinsemilla. On Wednesday, officers observed Hughes take possession of the package on the 5100 block of N. Avers and relocate to his residence in Des Plaines. Officers subsequently executed a search warrant and placed Hughes into custody.

Officers seized one Glock 9mm pistol and quantities of cannabis and cocaine from inside of Hughes’ residence. Additionally, 28 cannabis plants were recovered in the basement and more than $14,000 was seized. The total estimated street value of recovered narcotics exceeded $268,000.

Hughes was scheduled to appear in bond court on April 25, 2013.
