Area Seniors Advance to State Spelling Bee

Maine Township hosted the Regional Senior Spelling Bee on June 6. There were 16 contestants from eight area Senior Programs who competed. The winning word after 17 rounds was “Mahatma” which is a person held of worthy of reverence for high-mindedness, wisdom, and selflessness. The two winners, Wisby and Bowman, will compete Aug. 11 at the Illinois State Spelling Bee held at the State Fair in Springfield.
