Oakton Community College Welcomes New Assistant Vice President for Access, Equity, and Diversity

Michael Anthony, Ph.D., recently joined Oakton Community College as its new assistant vice president for access, equity, and diversity. Anthony, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, previously served as the director of the University of Louisville Cultural Center, where he assisted in divisional strategic planning and assessment for the Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity and provided support to 11 academic diversity committees.

In addition to teaching graduate and undergraduate education courses at the University of Louisville, Anthony served as coordinator of the Office of Civic Engagement, Leadership, and Service, and was resident and conference director at the Office of Housing and Residence Life.

In his new post at Oakton, Anthony will provide key leadership to the College in celebrating diverse people and ideas, inclusiveness, global perspectives, and a strong sense of community. In addition, he will oversee the implementation of workshops, presentations, learning modules, and other strategies that promote access, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

“I look forward to working with the faculty, students, and administrators as we continue to expand our definition of access, equity, and diversity, and strengthen Oakton’s leadership in inclusive teaching, training, and student programming and support,” said Anthony, who assumed his position at the College on January 2.

He received a doctorate degree in educational leadership and organizational development and a master’s degree in higher education from the University of Louisville, and a bachelor’s degree in business management from North Carolina State University.
