The Life of a Cynical Peach
I'll share my perspective on raising children while dealing with a chronic disease. It's my story and I'm here to tell it.
I've spent a fair chunk of time, probably far more than I should, pondering what this blog should be about and what the intro post should consist of. There are a lot of angles I could post from, but in the end I decided that it's a combination of all of them that really defines me and thus should define this blog. So this first post will discuss just that- who am I? Why should you care about what I have to say or read my blog?
To start with, I'm a 28-year-old female living in the Chicago burbs. I have two kids, ages 2.5 and 4.5. For the purposes of this blog they will be referred to as "son" and "daughter", as I don't feel comfortable posting their first names on the internet to such a wide audience. If you know what they are, fine, but please don't reveal them here. Thanks. I'm married to the man I've been dating since I was 17.
In terms of defining interests I'm a French culture enthuiast, aka a Francophile, hence the name of this blog. (For those interested in translates into French Peach). Yes, I do speak French as well. I'm also interested in literature- I own more books than anyone I know, history, dance (I take pointe classes to this day), music (I play the flute), knitting, and I love to swim. There are probably a million more interests I could list, but those are the major players. I work part time as a medical secretary, but I have plans to return to school for my Master's degree in the near future.
On the darker side of my life, I've been a type 1 diabetic since I was 7 years old. I wear an insulin pump and diabetes has been a big contributor to who I am today. I also suffer from two mental illnesses (which ones aren't important as it seems to only lead to stereotyping and unfair assumptions) and a neurological condition.
So you may ask, so what? None of those things are particularly special, why should I care about reading your blog? My answer to that is, maybe you shouldn't. I'm here to tell my story in the way that only I can tell it. I've been told I have a unique (albeit sometimes cynical and sardonic) outlook on life, which you may come to learn from this blog. I'll share my perspective on raising children while dealing with a chronic disease. On living with mental illness in a world that's not so understanding. In short, it's my story and I'm here to tell it.
