Meet the Author of "Rising Up from Indian Country: The Battle of Fort Dearborn and the Birth of Chicago"

Would you like to know more about what happened at Fort Dearborn in

Chicago in 1812? Come meet Ann Durkin Keating, author of "Rising Up from

Indian Country: The Battle of Fort Dearborn and the Birth of Chicago,"

at the Des Plaines History Center’s January Coffee Talk. The

presentation is set for Friday, Jan. 24, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the

History Center, 781 Pearson Street, Des Plaines, IL 60016.
Keating, a
history professor and chair of the History Department at North Central
College, richly recounts the Battle of Fort Dearborn while situating it

within the context of several wider histories that span nearly four

decades. She tells a story not only of military conquest but of the

lives of people on all sides of the conflict. Keating highlights figures

such as Jean Baptiste Point de Sable and John Kinzie.
