Kinder House Tours Resume in Des Plaines

The Des Plaines History Center announces the re-opening of the Kinder House for public tours of the first floor. The Kinder House, a 1907 house museum, is located at 789 Pearson Street in Des Plaines. Tours are free and begin in the Visitor Center at 781 Pearson Street on Sundays, 1-4 p.m., or Tuesdays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Enjoy a docent-guided tour as you step back into the early 20th century.

The main floor of the Kinder House includes the parlor, sitting room, kitchen, dining room, and pantry.

“If you’ve been nostalgic for those days when you could take a walk through the Kinder House and see the furnished details of rooms as they may have looked in the early 1900s, it’s time to come back and look around,” said Shari Caine, executive director of the Des Plaines History Center.

Philip Mohr, curator of the History Center, recently met with volunteers to walk them through docent training.

“We had several people attend the training session, and they are thrilled to be a part of this re-opening,” Mohr said. “Many of the volunteers have guided guests through the Kinder House in the past and they look forward to serving in this role again.”

Caine hopes these new added hours will make it possible for more people to stop by the History Center and see the quilt exhibit that is currently on display as well as touring the Kinder House.

The History Center gratefully acknowledges operating support from the City of Des Plaines, the Des Plaines Park District, its members, and other contributors.
