Jazz it Up!

Blow the dust off Grandma's fringed flapper dress, bob your

hair and kick up your heels in your best Charleston as the Des Plaines History
Center and the Des Plaines Elks Lodge #1526 host “Jazz It Up!” 6 p.m. to 10:30
p.m. Friday, Sept. 20.

Gala tickets are $25 per person or $225 for a table of 10

and can be purchased online at desplaineshistorycenter.org or by calling (847) 391-5399.
Tickets are also available at the Elks Lodge. Proceeds benefit the Des Plaines
History Center and Elks Lodge #1526 charities, which include support for youth
activities, overseas troops and veterans.

Relive the days of the Roaring Twenties with live music,

dancing and dinner at the Elks Lodge, 495 Lee St., Des Plaines. The fun begins with
a cash bar cocktail reception at 6 p.m. and goes until the last dance and last
call at 10:30 p.m. Period garb is encouraged
and elegant décor will set the mood.

Guests will dance the
night away to live music by the Chicago Bar

Association's Scales of Justice jazz quartet. They
can also purchase raffle tickets for chances to win a variety of theme baskets
and hourly drawings throughout the night.

The evening’s theme, “Jazz It Up!,” was inspired by the Des

Plaines History Center’s current exhibit, “Deco in Des Plaines: An

International Style for Everyday Life.” The Art Deco movement rose to

prominence in the 1920s. World War I was over, the economy was booming

throughout the world and jazz music was all the rage. The Roaring Twenties

ushered in a spirit of frivolity, luxury and a sense of freedom and

hopefulness.

“It is in this spirit that we invite the community to come

celebrate the cultural vigor and glamour of the era,” said Elizabeth Makelim,

Des Plaines History Center board president.

Shari Caine, executive director of the Des Plaines History

Center, said, “‘Jazz It Up!’ is an opportunity for people to have a great night

out while making a meaningful contribution to preserve Des Plaines’ history and
to keep the History Center’s educational programs and exhibits alive and
thriving.”

“Jazz It Up!” will be a fun-filled evening, thanks to the

generosity of our sponsors, including Horton Wellness & Chiropractic, Maine

Township, Des Plaines Alderman Dick Sayad, and many others who have contributed
their support to this event.

Sponsorships are available starting at as little as $25.

Individuals, organizations and businesses can also donate items such as gift

certificates or baskets for the raffle. Contact Elizabeth Makelim at (847)

962-4356 for sponsorship levels and a list of raffle items needed.

Don’t miss your opportunity to party like a Gatsby! It will

be a roaring good time!
