     Our November 25th program will be "The New River Boat Tour." WTTW11 producer, host, and Chicago Architecture Foundation docent Geoffrey Baer returns to the Chicago River in this exciting DVD Video for a tour highlighting the changes along the River. Shot in high definition and glorious color, hear the stories of the Illinois and Michigan Canal, cruise the Sanitary and Ship Canal and the North Shore Canal, and follow the river to its northern-most source - a sewer pipe in Waukegan!


     The program is free. There are no reservations necessary

     Our 2:00 pm program starts after a brief, monthly meeting. Also, Elections for Historical Society Officers will be going on from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.


     Doors open at 1:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served afterwards.


Geoffrey Baer is a multiple Emmy Award-winning producer and program host for WTTW Channel 11 (PBS) in Chicago. He is best known as the host and writer of WTTW’s popular feature-length specials about Chicago architecture and history including Chicago’s Lakefront, Chicago by Boat: the New River Tour, Chicago’s Loop: a Walking Tour, and Chicago by ‘L’: Touring the Neighborhoods, as well as six programs covering virtually all of Chicago’s suburban areas. He took viewers on a culinary tour in The Foods of Chicago: a Delicious History, which was nominated for a coveted James Beard Award, and explored the surprising side of the city in Hidden Chicago. His seventeenth special, Biking the Boulevards debuted in the fall of 2010.


Mr. Baer also appears regularly on WTTW’s public affairs program Chicago Tonight, executive producer of Artbeat Chicago and of the weekly documentary series Chicago Stories. He has also written and produced numerous other documentaries and cultural and entertainment specials for WTTW and PBS.
