Deadline to Register for Adult Trip: Lion's Den Gorge, 1860 Light Station and Port Washington Maritime Heritage Festival

Join the Des Plaines Park district on an Adventure Walk! Lion’s Den Gorge Nature Preserve is one of the last stretches of undeveloped bluff along Lake Michigan’s shoreline south of Port Washington. The Preserve has over .5 miles of 90 to 100 foot high bluffs looking out onto Lake Michigan and a mixture of wetland/upland areas. We can stroll across bridges over the gorge or down the gorge stairways to walk along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Then, we step back in time with a tour of the Port Washington’s 1860 Light Station, Light Keeper’s quarters, and the Maritime Museum. Feeling adventurous? We can climb the light tower and take in the spectacular view. At the Port Washington Maritime Heritage Festival, we can see the restored wooden boats, tug boats, and fishing trawlers; explore the artisan’s market, food court, and historic and educational displays. Lunch on your own in Port Washington. complete details are available at www.DPParks.org • 847-391-5700
