Des Plaines Patch Storm Coverage

A severe storm left 847,000 without power July 11.

A severe storm on Monday, July 11, left more than 847,000 ComEd customers without power in Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Streets and properties were packed with downed branches and trees. It was the second major storm to move through the area in less than a month.

It was recognized as "StormReady by the National Weather Service, which classified the storm as a derecho event.

Having power was critical for opening for the day. Some made do with a generator or offering limited services, while many others were shuttered for one or more days.
