Acting Mayor Walsten Declares State of Emergency

The flood stage projection for the Des Plaines River is 11.5 feet.

From the City of Des Plaines: 

Acting Mayor Walsten has declared a Local State of Emergency at 0400. The National Weather Service (NWS) has revised the flood stage projection to 11.5' by 7 am Friday April 19th. The current stage is 7.37' as of 6 am this morning. Public Works has deployed sandbagging equipment at the normal locations as listed below and is continuing to drop off sandbags and sand. PW is also deploying jersey barriers. 

The following are the sandbagging locations:


Hawthorne/Big Bend, Christ Church, River Rd/Wellwyn, Public Works 
The following street locations have been closed:
River Road (Miner to Touhy)
Stretch of Northwest Highway and Miner (Broadway to Western)
Golf Road (River Road to Bender Road)
River Road (between Elk and Rand)
Oakton (between Maple to River)
Central Road (East of River Road)
