Des Plaines Sets Up For Evacuations

From the City of Des Plaines 7:00 a.m. April 19: 

The National Weather Service (NWS) has revised its projection to 11' by 1pm Friday April 19th. The current stage is 10.79'. 

The Fire Department will resume evacuations in the Big Bend Subdivision later this morning.

Public Works has resolved the water main break situation and continues to monitor the sandbag locations (see list below) and maintain barricades throughout town.

Shelter Update: There are currently 20 people at the Prairie Lakes shelter. 

Current sandbagging locations (machine, sand and sandbags):
Hawthorne/Rand, Christ Church (Henry and Cora), Howard and Cedar,

The below locations only have sand and sandbags:
Woodland and Grove, Dawn Ct and Ballard, Apple Creek and Busse, River Road and Stewart, River Road and Shagbark, Locust and Riverview, Welwyn and Birch, Cedar and Fargo, Willow and Graceland

From the City of Des Plaines 6:30 p.m. April 18:

The National Weather Service (NWS) is still stating a projection to 11.2' by 7 am Friday April 19th. The current stage is 9.89'. Staff is setting up for evacuations in the Big Bend Subdivision which will continue until 6:30pm tonight and reconvene tomorrow. A robocall has been sent out to the Big Bend area (Big Bend Drive, Sherwood Road, Hawthorne Lane, Hawthorne Terrace and Junior Terrace).

A shelter has been opened at Prairie Lakes Community Center. Public Works continues to provide sandbag supplies at the below locations. Barrier Wall installations on River Road have been completed. The EOC will remain open throughout the night and residents can continue to call 847-391-5396.
