A Memorial Day ceremony honoring the nation's veterans will be held at Lake Park, 2200 Lee Street beginning at 11:30 a.m.
The Veterans of Des Plaines, American Legion Post 36 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2992 will "honor those fallen in the cause of freedom," according to the city of Des Plaines website.
The event will open with the Main West High School Marching Band performing a medley of service songs. Speakers will include Park District Executive Director John Hecker, Illinois State's Attorney Cheif of Investigations Kevin O'Connell and Des Plaines Mayor Matthew Bogusz, the city website states.
