After a long week in school, kids need to
get out and play. Research has shown that
sports contribute to their psychological well being by reducing anxiety and
enhancing self-esteem. In sports, kids find ways to make friends, learn to
cooperate, and be a leader. Participating on a team helps kids solve problems,
build self-discipline, trust, and respect for others. While we know you want
all of these things for your child, we also know that scheduling regular
practices can be difficult. That’s why, at the Des Plaines Park District, our
Sports Saturdays program is the answer. Kids drop in to the gym at the Leisure
Center on Saturday mornings, from 9:30 until 11:00am on a week-by-week basis,
and learn to play team sports including kickball, softball, basketball, floor
hockey, soccer, and more. These Saturday mornings are staff supervised, for
kids in grades kindergarten through fourth, and the focus is fun! Basic skills
for each sport are taught and teams are formed each week for low-key play. Each
week features something new, so youngsters can get a taste of a variety of game
play for only $6. Join us this Saturday, September 28, and on October
5, 12, 19, 26, and November 2 and 9.
