Des Plaines Celebrates a Safe Day of Halloween Activities

The Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce, The Des Plaines History Center, the Des Plaines Public Library, and the Des Plaines Park District hosted the annual Halloween Hoopla on Saturday, October 26. The spooktacular day began with a costume parade for kid and adult sized ghosts and goblins, all around Metropolitan Square and a day of safe trick or treating at participating businesses in Des Plaines. Children participating in the parade received a special trick-or-treat bag and prize courtesy of the Chamber of Commerce. From 11:00am until 4:00pm, at the History Center, children decorated sugar skulls as part of the annual Dia de los Muertes (Day of the Dead) celebration. Next door, at the Kinder House the Des Plaines Park District sponsored free crafts and Halloween games including wrap the mummy and pumpkin toss. At the Des Plaines Public Library, from 1:00-3:00pm, kids made a bookmark craft. At Mountain View Adventure Center, kids and adults enjoyed a creepy round of mini-golf at Haunted Hole-O-Ween. The course is decorated for Halloween and live haunting begins at 8pm on Saturday and 7pm on Sunday. For more information visit www.DPParks.org.
