Cindy Yelich Promoted to Special Events and Social Media Supervisor

The Des Plaines Park District promoted Cindy Yelich to the position of Special Events and Social Media Supervisor effective September 23. Yelich was hired in June of 2011 on a part time basis. Her duties included organizing and coordinating the Father Daughter Dance; the Mother Daughter Tea; the Easter Egg Hunts; the North Pole train rides; Earth Day activities; as well as redesigning the Birthday Party Program and implementing new social media strategies. Her responsibilities have now expanded to include neighborhood outreach programs, such as the Park It! Patrol; the creation of new family programs such as the Mother and Son Dominoes and Pizza Night and the upcoming Frosted Fairy Fest; and taking on a greater role in District events such as Fall Fest; Winter Wonderland; and the Community Spring Fun Fair.

“Cindy has an extensive history of full time employment in the Recreation field. She is certified as a Park and Recreation Professional by the National Certification Board and the National Recreation and Park Association and has been an incredible asset to the District. When it was decided that this program area needed to be expanded to accommodate the increasing demands, promoting Cindy was the natural choice. Her
dedication to both the District and the profession are evident and we are pleased to have her working with us in this new capacity,” said Jennifer Boys, Assistant Superintendent of Recreation.

Yelich has a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Administration from Eastern Illinois University, and a Masters of Business Administration from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. From 2004 to 2011, she was the Recreation Supervisor at the Pleasant Dale Park District, where her responsibilities included coordinating staff and vendors, and security for their July 4 celebrations. She has over fifteen years of experience managing staff, budgets, and recreation programs at both the Hanover and Addison Park District. Yelich lives in Rosemont with her husband and two children; she is studying the violin.
