Chuck Giuliani Retires After 13 Years of Service

On June 3, Chuck Giuliani, Facilities Maintenance II, retired after 13 years of service to the Des Plaines Park District. He began his career at the District on July 24, 2000, bringing years of electrical and electrical component diagnostic skills, as well as plumbing and concrete saw cutting experience. Giuliani has been responsible for maintaining the Park District's Thor Guard system, which is the lightning prediction and warning system located at all of the pools and major park facilities. His other primary responsibilities include facility mechanical repairs and inspections, electrical systems maintenance and repairs, plumbing system maintenance and repairs, and swimming pool maintenance and repairs.

Giuliani joined the Parks Department with a background in construction, concrete cutting, and demolition. He learned many of his skills from his father and grandfather working on a farm. “In the middle of the night on a farm you don't call a plumber or an electrician,” Giuliani said, “you learn on the job.” “Chuck is one of our "go to" guys for emergency repairs, especially after hours and weekends,” said Paul Cathey, Superintendent of Parks and Planning. “His reliability, knowledge, and skill set, and his diagnostic work on equipment issues has been invaluable to our District since he began. He knows the inner working of our facilities and is an extremely dependable employee of great integrity” Cathey said.

Giuliani is married with two daughters and one eight year old granddaughter. He is an avid fisherman and his retirement plans include putting his boat in the water and going to a fishing camp up in Canada. He is also working on restoring a truck and plans to get caught up on “all those home projects that seem to pile up.” “We also just rescued a two year old dog from a shelter in Kentucky,” Giuliani said, “so we are in the process of welcoming her to the family and training her.”

The Des Plaines Park District wishes Giuliani all the best. “He will be missed by all of us,” said Cathey, “and I hope that he has a great retirement, where he can truly relax and enjoy life.”
