Zumba Class Helps Raise Money for Relay for Life

On Saturday, June 22, The Together We Walk Relay for Life Team hosted a Zumba Class fundraiser at Prairie Lakes Community Center. The Together We Walk Team is made up of members of the Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines, The Rotary Club of Des Plaines, and employees of the Des Plaines Park District. The class was led by Cherry Nellessen, a certified Zumba and Zumba Gold instructor for the Des Plaines Park District, who volunteered her time. The event raised $180. Many of Nellessen’s regular class members attended, as well as members of the Together We Walk Team, and Jeanne Schroeder and her daughters of Des Plaines.

Schroeder is one of the three co-chairpersons for the Des Plaines/Park Ridge Relay for Life, which will take place beginning at 6:00pm on Friday, June 29 at Maine West High School. “We invite everyone to come and experience the outpouring of hope and compassion at Relay for Life this Friday,” Schroeder said. “Walk, eat, enjoy the spectacle, and join us in the fight against cancer,” she said. Participants are also encouraged to bring a canned good for donation to the Self Help Closet and Pantry of Des Plaines.
