The Monday Parks PlayBook: Fall into fun in your neighborhood parks!

The Des Plaines Park District has over 50 parks with playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, and plenty of space to play and picnic.

Let’s go to the park! No matter where you live in Des Plaines, you are never far from one of our parks and the many choices they offer for an afternoon of fun.

Time to take in the crisp fall air and turning leaves. West Park, Prairie Lakes Park, and Lake Park have walking paths that are perfect for a leisurely stroll, or a more energetic jog or bike ride. Grab your racket and a partner and head out for a game of tennis. Chippewa, Kutchen, Rand, Seminole, West, and Willow Parks have tennis courts. Want to try something new? West and Lake Park have bocce ball courts. How about a little one on one? Over twenty of the parks have basketball courts; the ones at West Park are lighted. How’s your toss? Arndt Park has horseshoe courts and there are two bags courts at the north end of Lake Park. How about a friendly game of volleyball? You can find sand courts in both Prairie Lakes Park and at Lake Park Looking for a place for your two to twelve year old to play? You can find playgrounds at over 30 of our parks with safe, colorful climbing structures, bridges, swings, slides, and towers. (You can see pictures of all of the playground equipment, as well as which parks have baseball/softball diamonds and open space for an impromptu game of soccer or football in the Parks and Pools section of our website at www.DPParks.org).

Save the date: October 6 is the Patch Par Three Challenge at Lake Park Golf Course. Join us for some end of the season fun. Shot gun start at 10:00am. No clubs for the little duffer? No problem. Lake Park has free golf clubs for children to use courtesy of the Sticks for Kids program. For all the information, call Lake Park at 847-391-5730.
