Donald J. Rosedale Named to Community Service Honor Roll

The Des Plaines Park District named Donald J. Rosedale to the Community Service Honor Roll at the Park Board meeting on January 15, 2013.

The Des Plaines Park District named a new member to the Community Service Honor Roll at the Park Board meeting on January 15, 2013. Donald J. Rosedale was recognized for his time, talents, and energy spent improving the quality of leisure services available to the community.

John Hecker, Executive Director of the Des Plaines Park District, presented Rosedale with his award and praised him for the innumerable hours he has spent volunteering for Des Plaines service organizations since 1970. Rosedale was elected to the Park Board of Commissioners in 1999, has served as President and Vice-president during his terms, and is currently the Treasurer. Rosedale is also a member of The Izaak Walton League, a non-profit conservation organization, an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines, and a Shriner with the Freemason Organization.

Rosedale has served on the board of the Frisbie Senior Center in Des Plaines in 1999 and on the Board of the Des Plaines Historical Society from 1991-1999, where he was the president from 1993-1996. From 1991-1999, Rosedale was on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce and served as its President in 1994. Rosedale was a member of Keep Des Plaines Beautiful, 1990 to 1992, and served on the Police and Fireman board from 2000 to 2009.

Today, in addition to his full-time position as Operations Manager at Contour Saws, in Des Plaines, and serving as a Park Board commissioner, Rosedale is active with the Des Plaines Arts Council and the Illinois Friends of the Parks organizations.

In order to be eligible for the Community Service Honor Roll, a non-paid volunteer must live within the Des Plaines Park District or City of Des Plaines boundaries during their time of service to the community. The award is presented every two years. Past recipients have included Steven Adams and Karen Briskey, (2011) Bob Neil and Margaret Polovchak (2008), Carol Shannon (2006), and members of the Special Events Commission, Youth Commission, Youth Sports, Des Plaines Garden Club, and School Districts 62 and 207.

Mr. Rosedale’s name will appear on two Honor Roll Plaques located at the Park District’s Administrative and Leisure Center, 2222 Birch St., and the Prairie Lakes Community Center, 515 E. Thacker St.
