The Des Plaines America Futbol Club U13 soccer team won the 2012 Nike Cup Division Championship, held at Olympic Field in Schaumburg, the weekend of October 5-7. The team swept all three of their semi-final games beating the Sockers FC Black Team, 3-1; Sockers WI, 6-0; FC Waukesha from Wisconsin, 2-0; and FC Waukesha, 3-1; for the Championship. “We are so proud of how these young players work together as a team to create scoring opportunities and a strong defense,” said Coach Julio Perez. “Many of these same athletes were on the 2011 winning Championship Team, too” he added.

The U11 team was named first runner-up in their division championship. Play began under the lights on Friday, October 5 with a win against Ela Blue, 5-3. Saturday afternoon, DP America FC came out strong against the Grafton Rangers from Wisconsin, moving the ball down the field, scoring one during the first half, and taking the win with a final score of 2-1. The third game win over Iowa Rush, 5-4, led the way for the Championships. The Championship game was played at 4:00pm, Sunday, against the Waukesha team from Wisconsin. Though DPAFC came out strong and went up 1-0 early, mistakes resulted in three quick goals on Waukesha’s part. The final score was 7-2, Waukesha. “We played hard, and are very pleased to be named First Runner-Up,” said Perez.

The Des Plaines America FC also has a U9 team this year, and the team is always on the lookout for players to add to all of their rosters. Indoor practice, during the late fall and winter season, is at the Lattof YMCA of Metro Chicago at 300 Northwest Highway in Des Plaines. Interested players should visit www.DPAFC.com for more information.
