Dancin’ the Night Away

On July 18, Artistry in Motion performed 18 pieces as part of the Live at the Lake concert series.

On July 18, Artistry in Motion, the in-house dance company of the Des Plaines Park District, performed 18 pieces from their repertoire at the Lake Park Memorial Pavilion. The performance was part of the Live at the Lake concert series, that offers free family entertainment on Wednesday and Thursday evenings throughout the summer.

Fresh from their impressive stand at the 2012 DanceAmerica Nationals, the dancers performed choreography from the competition as well as dances from the June School of Dance recital, Dancing on Air. The show opened with “Drummer Boy,” a rousing Tap/Hip Hop number that showcased the energy, emerging talent, and drive of the dancers. Other pieces included solos by Meghan Hanrahan, (Uprising), Jordin Suwalski, (Blood Brothers), Kim Diebold, (Sigh No More), and Mathew Skorupski (Beggin’), as well as Modern, Lyrical, and Jazz group dances.

On August 25, the Des Plaines School of Dance will hold their annual Open House. Returning and new dancers are invited to a day of free classes.

The next Live at the Lake performance is Super Stolie and the Rockstars on July 25, followed by the Jin and Tonic country cover band on July 26.
