Artistry in Motion Spring Showcase 2013

Artistry in Motion, the in-house dance company of the Des Plaines Park District, will perform their annual dance concert: Spring Showcase, on April 12 and 13 at the Prairie Lakes Theatre.

Celebrating their 9th season, Artistry in Motion, the in-house dance company of the Des Plaines Park District, will perform their annual dance concert: Spring Showcase, on April 12 and 13 at the Prairie Lakes Theatre. The program features new choreography by Richard Ashworth, Allie Buchwietz, Laura Chiuve, Cecilia Ferguson-Bell, Anne Gnoth, David Ingram, Rachel Ratto, Jamie Salas, and Mary Williams and includes performances by dancers who won awards during the 2013 competition season at 24/7 Dance Competition, DanceAmerica Chicago, Dance Idol 2013, VIP Dance Competition, and Nuvo Dance Competition.

Thirty eight unique dances will be performed across the two shows, making each program an eclectic mix of jazz, tap, lyrical, ballet, modern, contemporary, and hip hop. Highlights of the shows are solo performances by eight dancers selected as DanceAmerica semifinalists in February of this year. They are: Rosie Kurutz performing “Second Hand Rose,” choreography by Chiuve; Jordin Suwalski performing “Lionheart,” choreography by Ferguson-Bell and “Will You Be There,” choreography by Chiuve; Madison Rentner performing “I Won’t Say I’m in Love,” choreography by Chiuve; Bridget Donovan performing “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend,” choreography by Williams; Mathew Skorupski performing “The Remedy,” choreography by Ashworth; Ella Kurutz performing “Feather Theme,” choreography by Ferguson-Bell; Kim Diebold performing “No Light,” choreography by Williams and “Slow and Steady,” choreography by Ferguson-Bell; and Megan Swanson performing “Pretty Face,” choreography by Ferguson-Bell. Meghan Hanrahan will also perform two Showcase solos as the reigning 2012 Junior Dancer of the Year: “Hyperballad,” choreography by Salas and “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” choreography by Chiuve. Also, of note is the duo “Arms” performed by Hanrahan and Suwalski, and choreographed by Kim Diebold, who was named The Young Choreographer at DanceAmerica. She will go on to compete at Nationals against all other regional winners.

Chiuve said, “The dancers have had a remarkable season, earning over 30 Gold Awards and over 35 First Place trophies. Our Mission is to provide our dancers with multiple opportunities to perform and to share their love of dance with the community. This show is a shining example of the dancer’s dedication and the artistic and creative talent of our choreographers.”
