Concealed Carry Classes Vary Widely in Quality

Picking an instructor and a class to obtain your Illinois Concealed Carry License can be a daunting task.  There are over 2000 certified instructors in Illinois and dozens of companies competing for students in any given locality.  So how do you choose?

First off, you have to think about what you are looking for.  If you are just trying to get in and out and "punch your ticket" by taking any class, you may be in for an unpleasant surprise.  Instructors who cater to students with this motivation have already been decertified by the Illinois State Police, leaving students that took their classes high and dry.  Getting your certificate from a bad instructor can result in you having to retake your training, losing your money and even losing your license until your retake the training, if you're already licensed.  In short; stay away from shady instructors.

An easy way to ensure you are getting the best instruction is to check references.  One source, http://Facebook.com/IllinoisConcealedCarryClass has many positive reviews. This is the Facebook page of Illinois Gun Pros, which  has been featured on WGN radio and Naperville News Channel 17.  The website is http://IllinoisGunPros.com.

Whatever class you choose, ensure that you will complete the class with a copy of all the pertinent laws that you are responsible to follow, which include:

  • The Firearm Concealed Carry Act
  • FOID Act
  • Justifiable Use of Force Statute
  • Unlawful Use of Weapons Statute
  • Federal Gun Laws.
Getting an Illinois License to Carry does NOT mean you can carry anywhere; you have to understand the law to avoid being charged with a Misdemeanor.  Choose your instructor carefully.
