U.S. Representative Tammy Duckworth visits TMA to discuss Manufacturing Issues

(Park Ridge)- The Technology & Manufacturing Association of Illinois (TMA) yesterday hosted U.S. Representative Tammy Duckworth (D-IL8) at a breakfast meeting sponsored by the TMA Federal Government Affairs Committee.  Committee Chair Karen Trzaska stated “It was our pleasure to host Rep. Duckworth here at TMA headquarters. Her insights on the issues before Congress were valuable and encouraging. I appreciate her continued commitment to bipartisan support for the manufacturing community.”

Rep. Duckworth, who was elected to represent the 8th Congressional District in 2012, has hundreds of important manufacturing companies in her district including many TMA members. “It is critical to get kids interested in careers in manufacturing at an early age, even in middle school,” Duckworth offered. “We need to work to change their opinions about manufacturing so that they realize it’s no longer just guys in greasy overalls.”

Rep. Duckworth also committed to work with TMA to better integrate TMA training programs with area community colleges. TMA is in the process of launching its Community College Strategic Initiative, which is designed to allow the transfer of course credits between TMA and the colleges, among other things. “As we roll out the community college program, we will look for leadership from our elected officials at the local, state and federal levels,” said TMA President Brian McGuire. “We are pleased that Rep. Duckworth wants to be part of the process.”

About TMA: 8 small manufacturing companies who thought they could better themselves by associating with one another founded TMA in 1925. Through the years, members established programs and services that would help their businesses grow and prosper, train their employees, and provide medical and retirement benefits. As a result of these efforts, TMA has grown into a 1,000 member not-for-profit organization representing almost 30,000 employees of precision manufacturing and supplier companies throughout Illinois.
