National Organization Awards Quality Accreditation to Land of Lincoln Health

CHICAGO – Land of Lincoln Health (LLH), Illinois’ first and only consumer-operated and -oriented health insurance plan (CO-OP), today announced it has been awarded Interim Accreditation by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Interim Accreditation is the first step in the advancement toward full NCQA accreditation.

“We are pleased to be recognized by NCQA as having met their high quality standards for consumer-focused care,” said LLH Chief Medical Officer Barbara Loeb, M.D. “As a member-governed health insurance company, this is a big first step in our journey towards meeting and exceeding the highest levels of consumer protection and quality assurance.”

Issuers of health plans offered on a state-based or the federal exchange must be accredited by an accrediting entity designated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. NCQA, a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving health care quality, is one such entity. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and manages HEDIS®, a performance measurement tool used by more than 90 percent of the nation’s health plans.

“Beyond validating consumer focus, this class of status establishes additional confidence with a health plan’s members and providers,” said LLH Executive Vice President Jason Montrie. “It reflects proven reliability in delivering quality, sound services and products in the marketplace.”

NCQA accreditation primarily evaluates two key factors: 1) the quality of health care provided to health insurance plan members, and 2) the efficacy with which a health plan manages all parts of its delivery system — including physicians, hospitals, other providers and administrative services — in order to constantly improve the quality of care and services provided to its members. LLH’s efforts on the aforementioned were evident throughout the NCQA accreditation process.
