Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin visits TMA to discuss Manufacturing Issues

(Park Ridge)- The Technology & Manufacturing Association of Illinois (TMA) last week hosted Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) at a breakfast meeting sponsored by the TMA State Government Relations Committee.  Committee Chairman Mike Skala stated “It was great to have Leader Durkin here at TMA headquarters. His thoughts on the issues being discussed in Springfield are valuable to our members and we appreciate his commitment to addressing workers compensation, tax policy, and pension reforms-issues that are central to the health of the manufacturing sector in Illinois.”

On the subject of pension reform, Representative Durkin remarked, “the pension bill we passed was the right thing to do. It was not a perfect bill but it was a good start.” On tax policy he stated “The House Republican Caucus welcomes the discussion initiated by Speaker Madigan about cutting the corporate tax in Illinois. We’d like to extend that tax break to sub-chapter S corporations as well.”

Finally, when asked about the proposed graduated income tax, Rep. Durkin had this to say “ The House Republicans will not support an a graduated income tax or an extension of the temporary income tax increase passed three years ago.”

About TMA: 8 small manufacturing companies who thought they could better themselves by associating with one another founded TMA in 1925. Through the years, members established programs and services that would help their businesses grow and prosper, train their employees, and provide medical and retirement benefits. As a result of these efforts, TMA has grown into a 1,000 member not-for-profit organization representing almost 30,000 employees of precision manufacturing and supplier companies throughout Illinois.
