Readers’ Choice for Best Pizza in Des Plaines has Historical Recipe

Sports bar wins the 2012 Readers' Choice for best pizza with almost half the vote.

Garnering 49 percent of the votes and a rating on its directory listing, the winner of the is .

Janet Bar, co-owner, said they cut their thin crust pizza into squares, like old school pizzerias, and it has a really great and long history, originating from a family recipe more than 50 years old from Bellini’s Italian Cuisine in Chicago.

“It’s a pizza that has a history behind it,” Bar said. “It’s not just something that we developed when we came to Countryside.”

Bar said the combination of hot and cold on the salad pizza was one of the most popular items at the sports bar.

“That’s a meal in itself,” Bar said.
