Des Plaines McDonald's Celebrates 58 Years

The Lee Street restaurant was the first McDonald's franchise in Chicagoland.

It’s been 58 years since the famed Des Plaines McDonald’s on Lee Street opened for business, the Huffington Post reports.

The restaurant opened by Ray Kroc was the very first McDonald’s franchise in Chicagoland and the first McDonald’s east of the Mississippi, the Huffington Post reports. The original building was torn down in 1984, but a replica of the structure is still open today as a museum.
