Chicagoland Gets to Test Drive Walgreens Web Pickup

Walgreens Co. customers can now shop without ever having to enter a store thanks to the Web Pickup service the company launched Monday. With a click of a button, shoppers can order products online that'll be bagged for pick up in an hour at Walgreens stores in Des Plaines, Niles and Mort0n Grove.

"Our customers value choice, control and convenience; web pickup offers all of these." Walgreen's Media Relations Manager Jim Cohn told Patch. The Chicagoland area is the first to experience a full rollout—roughly 480 stores are expected to have the service by August—following a 27-store trial in San Jose, Calif.

Meanwhile the program falls in line with Walgreen's bigger web development goals, according to Cohn.

"Our website re-launched a couple of years ago and we’re constantly enhancing it," he said, "Our traffic for Walgreens.com has grown more than 50 percent over the last two years."

Customers can purchase any item except for prescription drugs and film development through the e-service. The program's curbside delivery is a timesaver for busy moms, as well as an assisted shopping tool for customers with mobility challenges, Cohn said.

Additionally, the quick service also has a seasonal-specific appeal for Chicago-area customers, he added.

"In markets like Chicago, come January or February, this will be a popular way to shop."

1. Browse and select products at Walgreens.com
2. Select the nearest store for pickup
3. Allow for one hour for the items to be found and bagged
4. Pull up, pick up, and go!
