Looking for a Few Good Reads? Try NextReads at the Des Plaines Public Library

Want a heads up on the newest books to hit the library's shelves?

For those who want a heads up on the newest books to hit the library’s shelves or just want to find a good book to read, the Des Plaines Public Library now offers NextReads, a free online newsletter service.

Next Reads aims to connect readers with books that match their particular reading tastes. Subscribers to the service may choose what newsletters they wish to receive by email or RSS feed from a list that includes Biography and Memoir, History and Current Events, Kids’ Books, Romance, Thrillers and Suspense, Mystery and New York Times Bestsellers (fiction and nonfiction), to name just a few. The newsletters offer a brief description of every recommended book along with a picture of the book’s cover and often a link to the first chapter. They also contain links to the library’s catalog, so subscribers can quickly place holds on the titles that interest them and pick them up at the library as soon as they’re available.

Signing up for NextReads couldn’t be easier. Just go to library’s Web site: www.dppl.org  and click on Read/Watch/Listen and then NextReads. A form will appear that asks for your email address and what newsletters you wish to receive. No library card is required to receive the newsletters, but you will need a card to request a book. You’ll receive the current newsletters you requested as soon as you sign up.

For more information, call the Readers’ Services Department at the Des Plaines Public Library (847) 376-2840. They can also give you book recommendations over the phone.
