“Swing into Spring” Senior Expo Features New Demonstrations

Maine Township’s 5th annual Senior Expo will offer new demonstrations, along with the classic entertainment and informational booths attendees have come to expect from the event. Swing into Spring will take place on April 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. So, mark your calendar and be part of the fun and excitement of this year’s event.

The MaineStreamers and Golf Mill Shopping Center are again joining forces for the annual event and exhibit spaces, available on a first-come, first-served basis, are selling fast.

To reserve a booth, contact the Expo Office at 847-698-5069.

New for this year, Sylvester Marshall, Tai Chi instructor, will demonstrate the art of Tai Chi Chuan at 11 a.m. in Center court. Tai Chi Chuan is a centuries-old Chinese exercise focusing on gentle, slow flowing movements that integrate inner-strength with meditation and breathing techniques. Tai Chi can tone muscles, improve flexibility and balance, and nurture physical, emotional and mental well-being.

The vocal trio, Legacy Girls, has been entertaining Chicagoland for almost four years now and will return to Swing into Spring for 2011. Their popular Andrews Sisters musical revue show, America’s Wartime Sweethearts, continues to be a big hit with audiences. Their costumes, 3-part harmonies and synchronized dance moves, not to mention their comedic flair, focus on the significance of WWII veterans and their essential part in the history of our country. With hits like Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree, Rum and Coca-Cola, Chattanooga Choo Choo and, of course, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, you’ll reconnect with times past and the songs that uplifted and unified a nation.

Event sponsors to date include Chicagoland Senior News. Others will be announced in the coming months. More than 60 exhibitors are expected to eventually be part of the event and many will be providing free health screenings. There will also be prize drawings and lots more.

“This will be another successful event and is presented as a public service to our area seniors through our MaineStreamers organization and in cooperation with the fine folks at Golf Mill,” says Carol A. Teschky, supervisor of Maine Township. “We expect many repeat exhibitors, who will be joined by a number of new companies including some tenants of the shopping center.”

The Expo promises to be a fun and beneficial event for all who attend. Last year more than 1,500 seniors attended. For more information, contact MaineStreamers at 847-297-2510 or visit the Township’s website www.mainetownship.com.
