"Louder Than a Lawnmower" Poetry Slam

“Louder Than a Lawnmower,” the third annual teen poetry slam, will take place on Wednesday, December 14 at 6:45 p.m. in the Little Theater at Maine West High School.

The poetry slam will host 11 teams from the Chicagoland area, including Maine West, Maine East, and Maine South along with Batavia, Lake Park, Glenbrook North, Glenbard West, Niles West, Julian, Leyden, and Indian Creek.

The event, founded by Maine Township High School District 207 teachers Eric Coval and David Hessert, has grown every year since its inception.  This year's event will be hosted by poets Kevin Coval and Idris Goodwin, and music will be provided by Chicago DJ Itch 13.

Admission is $2 per person, and the event will run until approximately 9:30.  “Louder Than a Lawnmower” is a regional slam of “Louder Than a Bomb,” the Chicago Youth Poetry Slam, which is the largest youth slam in the world.  Founders of the Chicago Youth Slam chose the name in 2001 because they believed the voice of youth to be more stronger and more powerful than any weapon.
