Hip Hop 'Til Hunger Stops Opens New Des Plaines Theater

Local independent record label, Division Two Records, will present their first show at the newly renovated this Saturday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.

Headliners include Serengeti, Small Time and Word. Serengeti isn't the typical hip hop artist and many of his songs relate to Chicago and Chicago culture, with electronic and rock influences. Admission is $10 a person or $7 with the donation of two cans of non-perishable food. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the Des Plaines Food Pantry.

Division Two, is owned by brothers, Jim and John Wilson, both Des Plaines natives. "Des Plaines has been such an important part of our lives, we wanted to find a way to give back to the community," said John. "This event will showcase local Des Plaines artists, Word and Small Time as well as the headliner, Chicagoan Serengeti, also known as David Cohn."

The event also marks the release of Small Time's new album. "Our goal with this show is to offer the audience the opportunity to enjoy a great evening of music and dancing while giving back to the community," John said.

While the theater will continue to go through renovations throughout the holiday season, this is the first installment of many great events to come and a great opportunity to begin bringing the community together once again at one of the city's most beloved gathering places.

Upcoming events are tentatively scheduled for now. There are three theatrical performances planned for January, including a possible vaudeville show. The theater is also hoping to have an event on New Year's Eve, though we can't reveal the plans yet as final decisions have not been made yet.

One event we know for sure will take place is a holiday open house on Dec. 19. The theater will host carolers around 2 p.m. followed by a screening of a classic holiday film at 3 p.m. (we can't tell you which film yet). There will be a second run of carolers and a screening in the evening as well.

Can't wait to see you there!
