Moms Talk: Are Parents Concerned About The Intersection of River and Rand Roads?

One mother in the community is concerned about an intersection that is "impossible with a stroller."

Moms Talk is a new feature on Des Plaines Patch that is part of a new initiative on our Patch sites to reach out to moms and families.

Des Plaines Patch invites you and your circle of friends to help build a community of support for moms and their families right here in Des Plaines.

Each week in Moms Talk Q&A, we encourage parents to contribute to the discussion, submit questions, give advice and share solutions in our comments box.

Moms, dads, stepparents, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community will have a new resource for questions about local neighborhood schools, the best pediatricians, 24-hour pharmacies and the thousands of other issues that arise while raising children.

Moms Talk Q&A will also be the place to drop in for a talk about the latest parenting hot topic. Do you know of local moms raising their children in the Tiger Mother's way and is it the best way? Where can we get information on local flu shot clinics for children? How do we talk to our children about the Tucson shootings? How can we help our children's schools weather their budget cutbacks?

So grab a cup of coffee and settle in as we start the conversation today with a question from Rebecca Sergeant:

The intersection of River Road and Rand Road...

There's several businesses that are pedestrian inaccessible (impossible with a stroller!!) from our neighborhood because of a lack of cross-walks and curb cuts. We just want to take our daughter out for ice cream or tacos now and then but dangerous River Road isolates us and keeps us confined to the west side of town. Is this bothering anyone else? I would be much happier raising my child in Des Plaines if this dangerous intersection could be made better.
