Compounding the concern over flooding, rainfall in the past two weeks moistened soils and caused significant rises in river levels across much of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, the National Weather Service stated.

“Additional heavy rainfall over the next few days will likely result in areas of flooding,” according to the National Weather Service’s announcement about the flood watch.
