Des Plaines Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine Celebrates 25 Years

The Founding Committee of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine will host an event at 1:30 p.m. July 1 commemorating 25 years since the shrine came to Des Plaines.

The Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine came to Des Plaines on July 4, 1988 and is located at the Des Plaines Maryville City of Youth, 1150 N. River Road, a press release from the city states.

Members of the Founding Committee of the Des Plaines Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine will be joined at the 25th Anniversary Press Conference event by the following: Reverend John. P. Smyth, former Director of Maryville City of Youth and current President of Notre Dame College Prep,  Des Plaines Mayor  Matthew J. Bogusz, and Reverend  Marco Mercado, current Director of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe at Maryville, the press release states.

The Press Conference will conclude with the Miracle of the Roses Presentation acknowledging when “Our Lady of Guadalupe” appeared in Mexico City on Dec. 12, 1531.

In addition to celebrating the 25th Anniversary, Reverend Marco Mercado, Director of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, will announce future plans for the Des Plaines Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine.    

Representatives of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine will be part of the City of Des Plaines July 4th Parade leading a unit that celebrates the Shrine’s 25th Anniversary.  Also, on July 4, 2013, the Reverend Carlos Monsalve will host the annual 20 mile bike ride to the Des Plaines Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine from The Holy Name Cathedral.
