Etude - An Original and New Musical by The Sigman Brothers Premiers at The Historic Des Plaines Theatre Oct. 16, 2013
Des Plaines, IL, Oct.9, 2013 - Etude, a fresh and exciting new musical by The Sigman Brothers makes its debut on Oct. 16, 2013, running through Nov. 3, 2013 at the newly refurbished Des Plaines Theater at 1476 Miner St. Described as a “musical fairy tale” by its creators, ETUDE is the story of legendary French pianist and composer Charles Valentin Alkan, a 19th century reclusive musical genius who's whole existence was shrouded in mystery, including his "accidental" death in 1888. For you see, he did not die…he survives to this very day as a vampire! ETUDE is filled with magnificent songs, powerful characters, dark humor, thrilling battles and enough twists to keep the audience on the edge of their seats!
A rich musical legacy is the heritage of the creators of Etude. Mike and Jerry Sigman are the sons of one of the most famous unknown songwriters of the 20th century. Their father was Carl Sigman, a legendary and prolific "Tin Pan Alley" lyricist, who wrote songs that were recorded by Glen Miller, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Elvis Presley, Mel Tome and Ella Fitzgerald. Music director and composer Mike Sigman holds five degrees in music and has been a fixture in the Chicagoland music scene for over 30 years with tribute bands such as Piano Man and ABBA Salute.
“We are both thrilled to premier our first musical in the city we grew up in. When we learned that The Des Plaines Theater was being restored to its original status as a working venue for stage shows, we jumped at the chance to make our dream happen there. The theater has a long and storied tradition dating back to the 1920’s. It has just the right feel for what we are trying to do with this show. We have assembled a dynamic production team and an extraordinarily talented cast. We are proud to be associated with this exciting project and contribute to the effort to restore this fine old theater to its status as a showpiece for the city of Des Plaines.”
The Sigman Brothers organization was established to foster an artistic environment to inspire the creation and staging of new and original theatrical productions of all genres, and to preserve and extend the storied tradition of the American Theater. ETUDE is their first production.
