MAINE EAST WELCOMES STATE REPRESENTATIVE CANDIDATE KHAN

CANDIDATE MO KHAN MEETS GOVERNMENT STUDENTS AT MAINE EAST

(Park Ridge, IL) – Last week, Mo Khan, candidate for State Representative from Illinois’ 20th District, met with teachers and students at Maine East High School.

Khan, a Park Ridge native, stressed to students the importance of civic engagement and public service.  He explained that while crisscrossing the nation as a traveling aide to Hillary Clinton during her 2008 Presidential Campaign it became apparent that elected officials were, too often, not effectively serving their constituents.  “I learned from Senator Clinton that you have to get out there, meet people and hear their stories.  You must constantly keep in mind that you are serving them.  And too often, especially in Illinois, our elected officials lose sight of that,” Khan says.

Taking questions from students and leading a discussion on the current state of Illinois politics, Khan shared his insights on a variety of issues.  He emphasized the importance of investing in education and increasing the speed at which technology is integrated into local schools.  He also underscored the need for an increase in the number of dual credit courses available to District 207 students.  “We need to make sure that our high school students are being challenged at the highest level possible and that post-secondary education is affordable.  Increasing the accumulation of college credits through dual credit courses will further both those goals,” Khan states.

Khan believes that investing in education, with an eye to the future, will better prepare students for the rapidly evolving job market.  “We cannot repeat the mistakes that have caused our youth to be both underemployed and unemployed.  As high-quality jobs are created, especially in the ever-growing tech sector, we must ensure that our students are well-positioned to get those jobs,” Khan says.
