Is your home ready for winter? Find out with a Home Energy Savings assessment during National Energy Awareness Month!

October is National Energy Awareness Month and it is the ideal time to make sure your home is ready for winter. Throughout the month, homeowners are encouraged to make simple changes and energy-saving improvements that could potentially reduce energy waste and save on energy costs.

Start saving now during National Energy Awareness Month with a Home Energy Savings assessment. The Home Energy Savings program, sponsored by Nicor Gas and ComEd, helps homeowners navigate the process of making your home more energy efficient.  A certified energy advisor will inspect your home and provide a customized report of opportunities to improve your home’s comfort and energy efficiency.

Additionally, the advisor will install compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), energy-saving showerheads, faucet aerators and insulating pipe wrap at no extra cost. The assessment also qualifies you for an instant rebate of 50 percent, up to $1,250, on recommended energy-saving improvements such as insulation and air sealing. The work is completed by certified program contractors under Building Performance Institute (BPI) standards.

More than 4,000 Nicor Gas and ComEd customers have already improved the energy efficiency and comfort level of their homes. See what some satisfied participants had to say:

·         “Our energy advisor was very professional and explained the process during the entire assessment. He identified that our exhaust fans weren’t venting properly and also pointed out areas in our kitchen area where we needed insulation – no wonder we had ice dams above our windows every winter!” - Village of Glen Ellyn homeowner
