Des Plaines Seniors Win Spelling Bee

Maine Township and its MaineStreamers seniors division held its 8th Annual Spelling Bee on March 3. The MaineStreamers have been organizing and promoting the local competition sponsored by the Association of Illinois Senior Center’s since 2006.

The two winners, both from Des Plaines, from the local spelling bee will compete in a regional event in June. Then the top two winners will compete at the state spelling bee held at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield on Senior Day, Monday, August 11.  

Here, l to r in the front row, are Supervisor Carol Teschky, Sigmund Del Mar, Adrienne Gamboa (first place winner), Lourdes Del Mar (runner up winner), Gayle Rosen, Helen Borows, Pronouncer Dodie Frisbie , who is the Outreach Librarian from the Niles Public Library . In the back row, l to r, are Trustees Peter Gialamas and Walter  Kazmierczak . The Maine Township elected officials served as judges.
