Early Literacy: Getting Your Child Ready to Read

Ever wonder what you can do to make it easier for your child as they transition to school? Using the Association of Library Services to Children (ALSC) guide, Every Child Ready to Read, we will explore the five main skills children need to
have before they reach Kindergarten and what you can do to foster those skills at home. Materials will be provided. Teachers will qualify for CPDU credits for attending this class.

Des Plaines Public Library houses a vast collection of books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and music. The four-story building is one the largest public libraries in the Chicagoland area. It offers free wi-fi and services for the vision- and hearing-impaired. There are meeting rooms that can be reserved for public use and it hosts regular events for kids, teens and adults, like Family Movie Night.
