Metra riders are prohibited from bringing coffee and face other restrictions on what they can carry on trains during the NATO summit. Breast milk, however, is okay.
Metra has stepped up security throughout its rail system for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit at McCormick Place, including the Union Pacific/Northwest Line from May 19 to May 21. Riders will face security screenings and restrictions on what they can carry on to trains while global leaders are in town for the NATO summit, Metra announced. Proposed parking garage, restaurant may open in 2014; hotel to follow.
Plans for a major development at Higgins and Mannheim roads that includes a parking garage, restaurant and hotel moved one step closer to becoming a reality on Monday. Planning Commission members voted, 3-0, in favor of approving a temporary site plan, and recommending to city council the developer’s proposal for a special zoning classification that outlines construction criteria called a planned unit development. The proposed development includes a parking garage with 2,350 stalls with shuttle bus service to O’Hare International Airport, a 4,000 square-foot restaurant with an option to add a drive-through lane and a hotel to be built at a later time. Noise complainant: No citizen in the city of Des Plaines should ever be treated this way.
Fountain Blue Banquets and Conference Center owners may have to tone down party events in their outdoor tent after several neighbors complained about late night noise. The owners re-applied for a conditional use permit so they can continue booking events into 2013.
