Travelers who complained when the Transportation Security Administration introduced extremely revealing security scanners can now rest a little easier. 

TSA has announced that it will replace those scanners, called "backscatter" scanners, with a new type that can get travelers through security faster, according to UPI.com.

The new machines, which emit less radiation, are operational in airports in busy air travel cities such as Chicago, New York, Boston and Orlando, USA Today reported. 

The old machines show a very detailed image of travelers' bodies, somewhat akin to a nude drawing, which critics have likened to a cyber strip search. The new machines show a simplified drawing of a human figure which is the same for every traveler, the Chicago Tribune said.
