Severe Thunderstorm Watch, Flood Advisory for Cook, Lake Counties

Warnings are in effect until 9 a.m.

 

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Cook, Lake and 10 other counties by the National Weather Service until 9 a.m. on Tuesday. The weather service also announced an urban and small stream flood advisory until the same time.

Severe thunderstorms capable of producing destructive winds more than 70 miles-per-hour were reported along a line extending six miles northeast of Kenilworth to Westchester and Shorewood, moving southeast at 55 miles-per-hour, the National Weather Service reported.

The thunderstorms were producing rainfall in excess of one inch every 30-45 minutes, which will have an impact on the morning commute.
