Schakowsky Rips Cantor, Dold

As Cantor campaigns with Dold today, Schakowsky questions North Shore Congressman’s moderate claims.

A visit by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today to boost the campaign of Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) prompted Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) to question Dold’s stance as a moderate Republican.

Dold is running for reelection against Democratic candidate Brad Schneider of Deerfield. The Republican running against Schakowsky is Tim Wolfe of Arlington Heights.

Earlier: Kirk, Schakowsky, Dold Talk Debt Ceiling Compromise

Cantor will headline a fundraiser for Dold today at a private Highland Park home and take some time with the North Shore Congressman at his Highland Park campaign office to join a phone bank sponsored by the Republican Jewish Coalition.

“Eric Cantor is really the ideological leader of the Tea Party group (in Congress),” Schakowsky said. “His approach kept (House Speaker John) Boehner (R-OH) from passing a transportation bill.” Dold is not a member of the Tea Party caucus.

Dold’s association with Cantor makes Schakowsky question the moderate credentials Dold champions and has led to endorsements from both the Chicago Tribune and the Daily Herald.

“He (Dold) is a radical in moderate clothing. He is exposing who he really is when he hitches up with Eric Cantor,” Schakowsky said. “He (Cantor) is the one who pulls the rug out from under him (Boehner),” she added referring to times Cantor has used Tea Party leverage to nullify deals made with Democrats.

Neither Dold, Cantor nor their campaigns responded to calls or emails from Patch to respond to Schakowsky’s comment.

Schakowsky was critical of Cantor when leadership of the House and Senate, including Cantor, reached an agreement with President Barack Obama to increase the debt ceiling in August. Cantor then listened to members of the Tea Party caucus and pulled the plug on the deal, according to Schakowsky.

“Eric Cantor was willing to put the full faith and credit of the United States of America on the line for his fiscal madness,” Schakowsky said. She criticized Dold for going along. “He (Dold) is no (Sen. Mark) Kirk (R-Highland Park). He is much closer to Eric Cantor.”

The democrats believe that raping taxpayers is legitimate.
On March 11, 2004, Schakowsky's husband, lobbyist Robert Creamer, the executive director of the Illinois Public Action Fund, was indicted in federal court on 16 counts of bank fraud involving three alleged check-kiting schemes in the mid-1990s, leading several banks to experience shortfalls of at least $2.3 million. Schakowsky was on the board of that group at the time.

McCloud, you have an awful memory. The record unemployment, debt, and credit downgrades are all courtesy of the prior administration. Housing is a more complicated story. Here we are 4 years later just digging out to see daylight with the public sector job growth held back by the GOP. We need more of the same, not back to the GOP economic policies that led us to near disaster.

The economy was good throughout the Bush admin, until the housing crisis kicked off. I suggest you read a bit more about what caused the housing crisis, as you are easy prey to Democrat's attempt to lump this into one neat little package. Kind of like they all voted for the war in Iraq, 99-1, and soon rendered the polictical yield in stepping aside and pointing fingers.

If Congressman Dold's voting record was identical to Rep Schakowsky’s, The Democrats would say that was only so he could be re-elected.

I could almost see our Country in 2023, after another term by President Obama and maybe two terms by Hillary Clinton, in economic turmoil. The Democrats would still be saying it's Bush's fault but we're going in the right direction. Just give us a little longer.

Cantor a radical? What would possess the author of this article to seek the extremist opinions of Jan Shakowsky? And then run an article allowing this extremist to do what the Tribune and other real media call laughable, portray Dold as a Tea Partier? And she does it to Cantor too?

Here is a NEWSFLASH for Patch: there are plenty of moderate Jewish organizations and moderate Jewish voters who are supporting Dold, a fellow moderate.

As Chairman of the Republican Party of Moraine Township I run across them all the time. They are all far too intelligent to be fooled by this nonsensical article which was designed to be what the Daily Herald calls "blatantly misleading" about how Democrats try to portray Dold.

You shouldn't be concerned about the few dead enders who still support Obama. They are either government employees, union lackeys, welfare recipients or trust fund babies with drug problems.
No one else buys into his hope and change nonsense anymore. The blame Bush game isn't working and their own race baiting tactics are working against them in polling too. They've made people so sensitive to being called a racist if they don't support Obama that when polled, a lot of those people claim to be in favor of Obama when in fact they won't vote for him. The race is a dead heat now according to polling, but it will be a different story come election day.
Working people know they are paying nearly five bucks or more per gallon for gas now compared to under two dollars before Obama. They've watched the prices of staple items quadruple in price in the last four years. And most (if they still have a job) haven't seen a raise in years either. Now we are hearing that the explanation of the debacle in Libya that killed our ambassador was a complete fabrication by the White House to fit the narrative that Obama has a good foreign policy. It's as much an abysmal failure as his domestic policy.

This country will still be paying for Bushco's financial mess for generations. He spent like a drunken sailor: turned the nations biggest surplus into the largest deficit by starting 2 (unfunded) wars and giving tax cuts to the wealthy. Hey 99 - the financial mess was caused by the CRA which was pushed by Democrats - loaning money to people who could not afford to pay it back. In 2004/2005 Bush and the Republicans TRIED to rein in Fannie / Freddie but were blasted by Democrats (Waters, Dodd, Frank) - CSPAN videos are on YouTube - as being racist. Democrats were saying Fannie / Freddie were "fine" and the best run programs out there - the Republicans worry about a financial collapse were "unfounded" - they don't look so unfounded NOW. Things would not have been as bad had the adults been able to do something 2-3 years before the collapse, but the Democrats wanted to keep "giving money away".

I know it's a small part of your issue here, but I think only one state, WA, has recorded a record apple crop. Most of the orchards were hit extremely hard, especially in the midwest with many varieties not being available. "In Michigan, farmers ended up with only about 10% of the usual harvest." So your idea would also require busing workers to a state that is in the far corner of the country. You can say it won't happen due to Political Correctness, but I think that is one of the last reasons. Many Americans now feel that those hard manual labor jobs are now beneath them. It's a tad bit absurd.

She doesn't understand our problems, doesn't live in the real world. Congresswoman and current Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), has got to be one of the most incompetent, polarizing, and habitual liars ever to serve as Chair of a major party. Whereas everyone these days has been making a big stink about Republicans throwing around harsh rhetoric, it has recently been shown that when you want to see how it’s really done, you ask a Democrat.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the worst kind of hypocritical Washington politician. She has called out Governor Romney for his wealth, while having a Swiss bank account and plenty of investments in foreign drug companies of her own. It has also come to light recently that she has been amassing a great amount of personal wealth. Not only has her bank account been expanding rapidly, but so has her number of luxury cars. One wonders if she would be as reluctant to answer questions about such things.

The all around undisputed champion of harsh rhetoric, lies, and being caught in lies has got to be Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Not only has she been caught lying and saying hateful things, but he has done so after repeatedly calling for increased civility.

Really, Jan, a squirrel alert? Rep. Schakowsky is so far out of touch with the constituents and the economic needs of her Congressional District, she probably thinks that she is running against Bob Dold for her Congressional seat ! !
She has no economic or jobs solutions for Illinois, so she has to play the old game "There's a squirrel! " (and everyone looks) to take the voters eyes off her own ineffectual policies and ideology that is stifling (killing?) small business growth here in Illinois and our Nation. If you are even mildly interested in getting the economy growing again in the 9th Congressional District, check out her real opponent, Tim Wolfe, a small business owner and pro-small business proponent. You can check out many interviews of Ms. Schakowsky on YouTube, and in print, and come to the conclusion that this Congressional District needs private sector jobs, new fiscal leadership and not a continuation of her self-described "progressive" ultra big government solution. Don't let Jan Schakowsky play "the squirrel game" with your vote.We need paychecks, Jan, not squirrel alerts.

To those saying that Bush turned the Clinton surplus into deficits, your right. Let’s look back at history to better understand why. With the last year of Clinton's presidency and the first year of Bush came the dot-com bubble burst and the economy began to lose speed and decline. With moves Bush made (like tax cuts), the economy started to get better, then 9/11. We took the war to the terrorists, fighting on their turf, not ours, and it worked. We all are safer because of these wars and should thank every soldier we see for their brave service. Despite these unforeseen issues, the economy started to turn around and actually boomed for a period of time after 9/11, then the housing bust. This was caused by both parties.

Bush nor the Republican Party didn't blame anything or anyone but themselves for his presidency. Oh yea, the Democrats had control of both houses during the first two years of the most incompetent President and non-leader since Carter. But unlike Bush, let's blame events or the prior administration or even the current Republican House to deflect attention from failed policies. Let’s call Romney a liar to make up for not being able to debate his failed policies or have a teleprompter at his disposal. It's been six years since the Democrats got control of both houses and four years since the White House. When is the left and Obama going to start accepting responsibility and stop blaming or making excuses?

This election is a simple difference in philosophy with the role of government. Do you believe that government is the solution or do you believe government is the problem? I for one believe government is the problem. But you people, who think it’s the solution, keep voting for people like Schakowsky, Madigan, Blagojevich and Quinn. What a great job they’ve done for Illinois!

'safer because of these wars"? If we are so safe because of an unnecessary invasion and occupation of Iraq why didn't Bush ask you to pay for it? We liberated the Iraq people from a dictator and their electricity, but we did not protect the homeland. Bush took his eye off the real need in Afganistan so he could invade Iraq. Our bridges are crumbling here at home and you're for building roads and paying off locals in Iraq. Nuts. Thanks to the President, he ended that nonsense in Iraq about $200 + billion later. Yea, way to go Bush, you and Healy cost our Grandchildren money and safe roads for what?

RB, you're being ignorant if you don't think these wars saved lives here in the United States and your comments are insulting to those who lost loved ones in these wars. The war in Iraq could have possibly changed the Middle East if we kept some type of presence there. But Obama and now Iran is seeing to it that it won't happen. The same thing is going to happen to Obama's war in Afghanistan. We need a real leader in Washington not someone leading from behind and apologizing.

Patrick, I specifically mention the Iraq war. Afganistan was necessary and I supported it when Al Quida was there. We wiped them out and then stuck around to try to get the country out of what the 14 th century? They are now in the 14th century but with IED's. I have nothing but great regard for every volunteer soldier sent there. Our Wars are fought for the most part by men and women from the middle or lower class. It's important to support them and their families. The Tea Party Republicans don't when they pitch ending entitlements and safety nets. We spend money on War and nation building once again, and not at home.

"Afganistan was necessary"

Absolutely not. The only thing Shrub needed to do was issue a letter of marque and reprisal. We save a minimum of 99% of the cost of the occupation, slaughter less civilians and turn fewer moderates into terrorists.

"We wiped them out and then stuck around to try to get the country out of what the 14 th century?"

Afghanistan was a modern place in the 50s and 60s before communism had its way.

Well it's a little after 5 and Romney has already walked back the abortion position he took yesterday. So, I hope to get this right. I may be missing a couple of flip flops....In the Mass. Governors primary he was pro-choice, as Governor he was Pro-Life, in the Republican Primary he was a pro-life 'severe' conservative, in the General Election he stated he was not going to sign any pro- life legislation as President, and now 24 hours later he walks that statement back. Do you people see a trend here?

Come on RB, this topic shouldn't even be a part of today's politics. You’re reaching with this one and can’t be serious that this is why Romney beat the hell out of Obama in the first debate. I'm Republican and personally believe in Life (and easier US adoption), but believe it's a women's right to choose. That's the law. It's my opinion that the majority of Republicans happen to share my view. Romney has said he would strike down Obama Care not Roe v. Wade. Abortion is used by the left as a scare tactic, the so-called 'War' on women! The only legitimate debate as it relates to this issue is who is going to be forced to pay for an abortion or birth control, not if it should be illegal.

Look at the CBS article back in August that states ‘Abortion views not a litmus test for most voters’ http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57501996/poll-abortion-views-not-a-litmus-test-for-most-voters/

People are simply willing to look past this issue when choosing a political candidate. And don’t get me started on Obama’s ever changing or should I say evolving stance on issues. They all change like the wind to get elected.

Afganistan is a mess, the middle east is a mess, Iran will have a nuke in a couple of months, and Obama lied about the embassy attack. Our bridges and infrustructure are just fine, relax this is an old lib line from the old school playbook. Iraq, no thanks to Obama who was against the surge, was pretty much over before Obama was sworn in.

My thoughts also, RB.

If Israel is saying 20% enrichment by next summer (and you know that's an exaggerated, Ahmad Chalabi-like attempt to drag to drag the US in), you know it's a few years before they get the 90% needed for a bomb.

But I know we're not really big on the facts here.

If you are extremely wealthy and lack empathy then Romney/Ryan are just right for you. If you are not wealthy but lack the ability for empathy and you're a low information voter, then Romney/Ryan and their GOP team may get your vote even though you may live to regret it when you can't get affordable healthcare, your wife, partner or daughter is forbidden from terminating an unwanted pregnancy, you lose your job at a small business and someone elses religion begins to rule your civil life.
If on the other hand you're an informed voter and like the rest of us then you better dust yourself off and get off your butt and help keep this country from falling into the hands of a Social Ideology that will undo 80 years of progress. These folks are social engineering us back to the 1800's and they now have a chance of winning and taking our country. Nuff said, get busy!

A pathetic argument to vote for Obama and void of any of his accomplishments for the past 4 years.

Here are a few facts on why to vote against him:
1) 23 million un/under-employed people 2) No budget passed in his term. 3) An 8% reduction in household income in 4 years. 4) $1 trillion deficits for past 4 years, highest ever, and $10 trillion more debt on the way in 10 years. 5) doubling of food stamp spending, trillions more in spending due to Obamacare, and he just plans more dependency for the future with no commensurate effort to increase self-reliance. 6) Education - his race to the top is considered a failed policy in most educators opinons and didn't pass congress. 7) a failed energy policy with gas prices doubling under his watch 8) a failed Foreign policy filled with mistakes, lies and apoligies.

Nuff said? Because there's lots more!

Watch anything other than Fox News and you'll get answers to each of your points that falsely blame Obama and the Democrats. Or, just watch the debates. Interestingly, you're not mentioning Ryan/Romney wanting to do away with a safety net during a recession. Food Stamps? Thankfully, they were available during the worst recession since he depression. More gas and oil exploration than ever, so don't blame gas prices on Obama. Self reliance? You guys really are hypocritical. Lie in ads that Obama has done away with work requirements for welfare. That's been proven false and actually was done at States request and only if the State required 20% greater work requirements than the Feds. Your talking points are old...

Oh that's right RB, these sad truths and disappointing figures are not the fault of the Democrats or Obama. Not at all, they are the fault of Bush and the Republicans. Better yet blame Reagan. Grow up and take some responsibility for your party and the lack of leadership in Washington.

Your comments only make me wonder if Obama, the Democrats and you would be taking credit right now if the policies put in place had worked.

In February 2009, President Obama was very confident that his economic policies would turn the country around within a year. He said, and I quote, 'A year from now, I think people are going to see that we're starting to make some progress. If I don't have this done in three years, then there's going to be a one-term proposition.'

Nuff said! He’s done!

Republicans: the FIRST political party in America that FORCES women to undergo an unnecessary, painful, costly, embarrassing, and religiously motivated internal vaginal probe procedure that may be against the will of the woman. I suppose men would bend over for a similar legislatively forced probing to determine prostate health before procreation activities were permitted by law!?! We call this Due Process. Why aren't women screaming at the top of their lungs about this obvious governmental abuse of power and loss of freedom? And the Republicans are the party of smaller government?

From Wikipedia: Husband's bank fraud and tax evasion convictions
On March 11, 2004, Schakowsky's husband, lobbyist Robert Creamer, the executive director of the Illinois Public Action Fund, was indicted in federal court on 16 counts of bank fraud involving three alleged check-kiting schemes in the mid-1990s, leading several banks to experience shortfalls of at least $2.3 million.[17] In August 2005, Creamer pleaded guilty to one count of failure to collect withholding tax, and bank fraud for writing checks with insufficient funds. All of the money was repaid. Schakowsky was not accused of any wrongdoing. Schakowsky served on the organization's board during the time the crimes occurred, and Schakowsky signed the IRS filings along with her husband. U.S. District Judge James B. Moran noted no one suffered "out of pocket losses," and Creamer acted not out of greed but in an effort to keep his community action group going without cutting programs, though Creamer paid his own $100,000 salary with fraudulently obtained funds. On April 5, 2006, Creamer was sentenced to five months in prison and 11 months of house arrest.Creamer served his five-month incarceration at the Federal Correction Institute in Terre Haute, Indiana and was released on November 3, 2006. Blaho was considering Schakowsky to fill Obamass' vacant Senate seat. Birds of a corrupt feather.........

CHANGE: “The Chicago Tribune announced this morning they are endorsing fiscal conservative Tim Wolfe over Cong. Jan Schakowsky in the 9th District congressional race in Illinois. This is huge.”
Cong. Jan Schakowsky, a member of the Progressive Caucus, marches with Occupy and cavorts with radicals. She’s had a dinner held in her honor at by the Democratic Socialists of America. The Huffington Post included her in a list of politicians who started their careers as community organizers. Oh, and her convicted felon husband Robert Creamer wrote the first drafts of Obamacare from his jail cell while serving time for check-kiting.

Tim Wolfe is a private citizen, an accountant who has not dabbled in community organizing or professional politicanhood. He believes in the American dream and has his own American story. I’ve met him over the course of the campaign and have been impressed by his commitment to fiscal responsibility, tireless campaigning, and humility. He’s not seeking the spotlight or a cushy career like his opponent but to serve his constituents.

In watching Ms. Schakowsky's interviews, and reading her own words, it it almost if she is representing the old pre-Gorbachev Politiburo instead of her Congressional District. Whether a person votes as an Independent, Democrat or Republican in the 9th Congressional District, the voters in the 9th Congressional district all live in Illinois! Ms. Schakowky's out-of-touch, polarizing ideology has done absolutely nothing to create private sector jobs and small business growth, right here in the Illinois 9th Congressional District. There is an opportunity to start re-building Illinois' fiscal future on November 6th; and it starts with having the courage and conviction to vote this extremely polarizing ideologue out of office.Split your ticket, if necessary, but this is important.

The Congressional Budget Office's just-released economic forecast for 2013 is dispiriting, to say the least. The GDP is expected to grow by only 1.4%, the unemployment rate will "stay near" 8%, the deficit will reach $845 billion, and ObamaCare will cost 7 million their health insurance.
