While major music store chains like Sam Goody and Tower Records have come and gone, mom and pop shop, Algonquin Records, 532 E. Algonquin Road, has been a staple and community favorite in Des Plaines for 35 years. Owner Dan Malapanes, 56, credits changing with the times for the success of Algonquin. He's sold everything from 8-track tapes, to Beta and VHS movies, to Laser Discs and now DVDs, CDs and even comic books. What's always remained a constant, however, has been the sales of records, which he says have made a comeback and are more popular than ever.

Algonquin Records is the best place to go to find new and used records. He also sells CD's and DVD's. If you cannot find it, Dan will order it for you.
