Post Office Prices Increase
The cost to mail one ounce letter and postcards has increased starting today.
Prices at the post office are higher than ever.
Beginning today, the cost to mail a one ounce letter has increased to 46 cents a stamp. That’s up from 45 cents in 2012. Mailing a postcard also costs one penny more at 33 cents. The same increase was imposed in 2012.
New Domestic pricing for Priority Mail Flat Rate products are as follows:
- Small box — $5.80
- Medium box — $12.35
- Large box — $16.85
- Large APO/FPO box — $14.85
- Regular envelope — $5.60
- Legal envelope — $5.75
- Padded envelope — $5.95
What do you think about the post office price increases? Tell us in the comments section.

I think the only thing that keeps them going is the junk mail~seriously

Actually, it doesn't. It only increases the deficit. If they charged the same first-class rate for every piece they handle, instead of giving junk-mail the low low rates, they could probably reduce the prices and still stay in the black.
As usual, corporations are pulling all the strings.

Antiquated with an overblown budget complete with large pensions. Time to let this branch go.

At least Lance Armstrong got his $33 million sponsorship deal out the USPS before the wheels came off. Wonder if they feel they got their money's worth?
What business does a non-competitive quasi-government agency like the USPS have spending money on sponsorships? Other than a sign out in front of the post office building, I don't see justification for any marketing budget at all.

They should sell their facilities and routes to UPS and FedEx. At least they would get something back. The USPS is the VHS of parcel delivery.

Right, once the PO is gone, UPS and Fed Ex can charge anything they like. Have fun paying 3.50 to send a check to your dentist, or $50 to send a care package to your kid in college. The USPS takes no tax dollars, and would not be raising rates or having problems if the Republiscum, under Bush, hadn't passed a law that required them to fund 75 years of pension payments in 10 years. It was designed to put them out of business, as it was an insane thing to do. Typical Repukes.

"Liberal snakes"? Vicky used that term the other day while advocating Murder charges for 14 year old rape victims. Is that a new term that Rush is using or maybe Ann Coulter? I've not been called that until recently. I doubt Mac and Miss Vicky came up with that independently.

McClown, the USPS does receive taxpayer $, for the purposes of providing postage free mailing to the blind, for mail in ballots, and for its help in providing info to child support agencies. Not sure about the blind thing, but the others make sense. They do NOT recieve tax $ for operating costs. Why don't you EVER just do some simple research before you shoot off your big mouth? You embarrass yourself daily.

The USPS does get some taxpayer support. Around $96 million is budgeted annually by Congress for the "Postal Service Fund." These funds are used to compensate USPS for postage-free mailing for all legally blind persons and for mail-in election ballots sent from US citizens living overseas. A portion of the funds also pays USPS for providing address information to state and local child support enforcement agencies.

Sandra, the information in the link that McCloud posted basically states the same thing that you did about USPS funding, but if you had bothered to read it you would have known that.
