A Bad Getaway Plan and Stolen Gnomes

A look at unusual crimes in our Patch region this week.

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

Heist tea

Someone stole an antique monogrammed Tiffany sterling silver tea worth more than $10,000 from a Winnetka home.

I bet they'll never find me here!

Deerfield police said they noticed a man driving erratically and followed him as he drove into his own garage. The man attempted to close the door as the officer approached, police said, but the officer used his foot to activate the sensor to open the door again. The man was charged with DUI.

Friends with financial benefits?

A man was robbed of $110 after falling asleep with someone he described as a friend “with benefits” in Skokie. The man told police this is the third time his female friend has robbed him.

Going from bad to worse

A 20 year old was spotted by Glencoe police officers driving on a tire rim and then charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Maybe they just got a great airfare deal on Travelocity?

Three gray garden gnomes were reported stolen from the front yard of Des Plaines home.
